Position Overview
The Institute for Information Sciences (I2S) computer infrastructure is extremely dynamic and challenging. This position will provide advanced computer hardware, software, and network support for the research needs of the I2S. Independently applies advanced knowledge of scientific research or engineering principles and practices in broad areas of assignments and related fields. Creates, maintains, tests, troubleshoots and/or implements hardware, software and/or data systems solutions used in the support of research. This position will be part of a small technical team of experts, which support: an academic research community with both advanced hardware and software resources, a High Performance Computing (HPC) cluster, and a dedicated parallel storage system. In addition, the center supports three primary computer operating systems (Linux, OSX, and Microsoft Windows). The research and operational networks are equally complex and completely maintained in-house by the I2S staff. These networks are comprised of 1/10/100G-Base TCP/IP running over copper and fiber-optic cable.

- Provide advanced computer hardware/software/network design and system support for the I2S which is a very dynamic and advanced academic communications research and development facility.

- Support end-users (i.e. operational staff, graduate students, and faculty) computer and networking needs through the design, development, specification, installation, configuration, and management of computer hardware/software/networks.

- Manages the daily operations of the Institute for Information Sciences (I2S) computing and networking facilities.

- Consult with I2S members about computer system issues, such as: requirement analysis, computer hardware/software/network system specifications, maintenance, development, support, and cost.

- Manage and mentor student system administrators.

- Evaluate and make recommendations relating to computer software, hardware, and network solutions to researchers.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
- Five (5) years' experience with UNIX/Linux System Administration.
- Excellent communication skills as evidenced by application materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Linux system administration, Apache Web Servers, Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP), Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP), Microsoft Windows 10/11 system administration, network management tools, network file systems (NFS), large-scale workstation roll-out, and shell programming as evidenced in application materials.
- Advanced system administration experience with Unix/Linux as shown in application materials.
- Administration experience on routers and switches as shown in application materials.
- Administration experience with High Performance Computing as demonstrated in application materials.
- Previous experience working with a technical team as evidenced in application materials.
