Perimeter College is seeking (1) a dedicated and experienced Laboratory Supervisor for the American Sign Language Lab

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

The Lab Supervisor, which requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL), will cover the ASL lab during its operating hours, (there will be morning, afternoon, and evening hours), work with ASL students and faculty, support the operation of the ASL lab, and provide ASL communication support as needed for Deaf faculty and the department. The ASL Lab Supervisor is crucial to the success of students studying American Sign Language at Perimeter College.

A high level of proficiency in American Sign Language is required.

Experience with the Deaf community in regards to instruction delivery is preferred.

The essential duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Supervisor are the following:



  • Manage student sign-in / maintain records of usage.
  • Manage student lab usage contracts.
  • Monitor and coordinate students in lab.
  • Provide students with assistance during their use of ASL lab.
  • Engage students in conversations to help students practice sign language skills.
  • Proctor students during open lab hours and examinations
  • Archive student work.
  • Track student resources in software used to catalogue films and other instructional materials.
  • Work with faculty to assist students with assignments and video recordings.
  • Ensure lab equipment and technology is operational.
  • Assist department with office and student-related ASL communication needs.
  • Plan and host film viewings, game and activity nights, and similar activities.
  • Plan quarterly student on-campus gatherings.
  • Work with ASL Club and faculty advisor to arrange and manage meetings, club promotion, and activities.
  • Participate in monthly ASL team meetings.
  • Coordinate students who volunteer to assist in ASL 1001.
  • Catalog and manage materials and supplies.
  • Work with media and IIT to keep the ASL lab software and technology current, relevant, and innovative.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds to organize and maintain storage areas.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:



  • Master's degree and three years experience; or a combination of education and related experience.


Preferred Hiring Qualifications:



  • A high level of proficiency in American Sign Language is required.
  • Experience with the Deaf community in regards to instruction delivery is preferred.
