Job Summary:

The College of Letters and Science (L&S) is the heart of UW-Madison and home to a tremendous breadth and depth of departments and degree-granting programs in the humanities; natural, physical, and mathematical sciences; social sciences; and the computing, data, and information sciences. Join the L&S Administrative Regional Team as an HR Generalist. In this role, you will be responsible for a dynamic array of responsibilities, directly serving the needs of one or more units in the college with day-to-day HR and payroll tasks. Areas of responsibility may include recruitment and onboarding coordination, processing hire and job change transactions, immigration and work authorization tasks, and managing payroll and benefit activities.

Reporting to the HR Manager, you will also contribute to the ongoing development of L&S HR services to ensure we are effectively meeting the needs of employees and units. This will include both individual and group process improvement work, including research, analysis, and implementation in a high-volume and fast-paced work environment.

Responsibilities:
Provides human resources (HR) information and support to a work unit regarding more than one HR functional area to ensure timely and accurate transaction processing. Maintains personnel records and assists with work unit operational policy development.

  • 20% Provides consultation, performs analytics, and/or maintains personnel files, communications, and materials for work unit through various mediums
  • 40% Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines
  • 20% Receives, responds to, and resolves employee questions and problems
  • 5% Represents unit/program at institutional workshops, informational meetings, and training sessions
  • 10% Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of work unit Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations
  • 5% Prepares, submits, and processes immigration and employment authorization documentation for current and prospective employees to the appropriate entities

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-- Minimum 1 year relevant experience in Human Resources, payroll, or related role
-- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word or similar applications
-- Strong verbal and written communication skills
-- Strong attention to detail and the ability to independently plan, establish priorities, and accurately enter and manage information in web-based applications in a deadline-driven work environment
-- Ability to apply equity, inclusion and belonging practices throughout assigned responsibilities

Preferred Qualifications:
-- Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to navigate and utilize a Human Resource Information Systems (e.g. PeopleSoft, Workday, etc.)
-- Human resources and/or payroll experience in a higher education or similar setting
-- Experience with applying complex policies and procedures related to complex processes
-- Experience with improving processes, navigating change, and/or applying systems thinking to work

Salary:

Minimum $55,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $55,000 - $74,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurances and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.
