Responsibilities & Expectations:

The Area General Manager is responsible for driving continuous improvement, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction in a transformer service and refurbishment facility. This role focuses on deploying operational frameworks, optimizing productivity, and ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and employee relations. As a key leader, the Area General Manager will oversee supervisors, leads, technicians, equipment, and materials to meet both daily production and long-term business goals. This is a highly visible position, offering the opportunity to shape the future success and growth of the organization.

  • Lead and motivate hourly workers to prioritize safety, actively participate in safety audits, incident reports, training sessions, and adhere to JHAs, LOTOs, housekeeping, and inspection protocols.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration between management and union employees by promoting servant leadership, encouraging input from the skilled workforce, and building a cohesive "One Team" culture.
  • Effectively communicate and maintain focus on customer satisfaction and continuous improvement in processes, skills, and team performance to set the organization apart from competitors.
  • Plan and coordinate labor requirements on the shop floor to manage incoming tear downs, inspections, production repair jobs, and field service work.
  • Manage daily labor planning and oversee workforce allocation to support the production schedule, including rush jobs and vacation scheduling, while controlling labor costs.
  • Collaborate with management to cross-train in key areas, overseeing labor, consumable supplies, and cost management.
  • Develop and implement project-specific work plans and customer reporting requirements to ensure efficient project execution.
  • Coordinate customer job inspections, ensuring work meets safety, schedule, and specification requirements, while assisting with service center certification audits.
  • Ensure customer requirements such as inspections, data collection, and material delivery are met promptly and efficiently.
  • Lead the ongoing development of the Quality Program by improving documentation, work instructions, and process standards while focusing on jobs with higher complexity or risk.
  • Improve key customer-facing metrics, including quality, time-to-quote, approval-to-ship, and ship-to-invoice, while driving key operational metrics such as safety, margin performance, labor utilization, and cost control.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Industrial Technology, or Manufacturing Management preferred.
  • 5+ years of production or maintenance management experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience in electrical and mechanical repair of transformers or related equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and production MRP systems.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement cultures (Lean, 6S, Safety, High Engagement Work Systems) preferred.
