What You Will Do:

The Transition and Partnership Coordinator will strengthen collaboration between National Louis University (NLU), Chicago Public Schools (CPS), and other stakeholders to address housing insecurity and improve student transitions to higher education. The Coordinator will play a key role in developing partnerships, facilitating events, supporting housing initiatives, and participating in professional development to better address the needs of McKinney-Vento and DCFS students.

This is a temporary, grant-funded position ending June 30, 2025 or another date as determined by administration.



Essential Responsibilities

Strengthen Collaboration and Partnerships:

    Facilitate regular convenings with CPS staff, NLU's HOUSE liaisons, and other stakeholders to implement collaborative solutions for reducing housing insecurity and supporting the academic transitions of McKinney-Vento and DCFS students.
  • Use frameworks like the Levels of Collaboration Continuum to build trust, share resources, and establish structured partnerships that ensure consistent and effective support for McKinney-Vento and DCFS students.
  • Foster relationships with community partners to align services, expand support networks, and identify long-term housing providers for students in need.
  • Align housing initiatives with NLU's Basic Needs Hub to expand resources, create sustainable support structures, and address long-term housing needs.

Coordinate Student Transition Events:

  • Organize and execute transition events to introduce McKinney-Vento and DCFS students and their families to NLU resources and support services.\
  • Collaborate with CPS to design events that address students' unique needs, focusing on housing stability, academic support, and holistic care.
  • Evaluate the success of events and incorporate feedback for improvement.

Training and Reporting:

  • Participate in professional development to enhance understanding of housing insecurity and apply insights to improve collaboration and reporting.
  • Document activities, track progress, and prepare reports to ensure grant compliance and alignment with project goals.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred; Associates degree in Social Work, Education, Psychology, or a related field required.
  • 1-2 years of experience working with external organizations to build relationships and align on shared goals.
  • Strong ability to plan, organize, and execute events, including managing logistics, communication, and evaluation.
  • Strong ability to manage timelines, coordinate multiple tasks, and ensure deliverables meet objectives.
  • Proficient in using office productivity tools (e.g., Microsoft Office, Google Workspace) and comfortable learning project management or tracking systems.
  • Ability to document activities, analyze data, and contribute to preparing detailed grant compliance or performance reports.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Shows genuine sensitivity to the needs, feelings and capabilities of other people. Deals with others in a pleasant manner. Treats others with respect and consideration.
  • Relationship Building/Networking: Builds rapport and develops alliances with a broad range of people. Adjusts communication style to meet the needs of individuals at various organizational levels and to meet the needs of clients. Forms alliances by demonstrating concern and respect for others, as well as by highlighting common interests and aspirations. Leave others feeling that he/she will be a trusted ally and is careful to act in ways that reinforce that trust over time.
  • Problem Solving/Critical Thinking: The ability to assess complex challenges faced by students, identify barriers, and implement creative, practical solutions.
