The primary responsibility of all Facilities Staff is to work as a team to provide a safe, attractive, functional and efficient facility within which the campus community may grow and prosper. It should be understood that all plant employees, will at times, be assigned other duties within their capability aside from their designated area of expertise. This position works within the trade scope of grounds and other duties as assigned.

Job Description

  • Fleet maintenance -basic automotive repair knowledge and troubleshooting for gas, diesel, and electric vehicles. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, tire rotation, lubricate, battery swaps, etc. Mechanical intuition needed to understand various vehicle auxiliary attachments and their operation.(plows, brushes, buckets, forks, trenchers, etc) Clean vehicles inside and out to maintain a safe working environment and appearance.
  • Small engines - working knowledge to troubleshoot/PM, diagnose, and repair equipment such as power washers, portable generators, leaf blowers, etc
  • Grounds related work: Hard surface blow downs, leaf collection, storm sewer and storm water retention maintenance, green roof care, clears roofs, gutters and drains, exterior facade upkeep, trash and litter removal across 111 acres, snow removal, minor arbor related work, general agronomic tasks
  • Should understand college sports field seasonal requirements. Supports Athletics and athletic related needs by, lining fields, setting up sports related equipment such as goals, bases, etc, inspects and maintains irrigations systems.
  • Works closely with our 3rd party grounds contractor to support all agronomic tasks across campus to maintain our grounds matrix and specific levels of service. Cooperates and acts as a liaison with the foreman(s) of contracted grounds related activities
  • Performs general maintenance/repairs on the following: bollards, fencing, exterior signage/banners, power washing, fountain cleaning, vehicles.
  • Snow removal lead and is familiar with snow vehicles, equipment, and minor repairs; Maintains an understanding of grounds related chemicals; Cooperates with other university employees and related contractors to achieve the best possible results; Act as a crew leader for student help related to grounds;
  • Submits orders for materials through department procedures; Maintains lockers, grounds shops, and storage areas in a safe manor protecting against fire;
  • General Maintenance: Provides work order documentation feedback on trade and non-trade related tasks; Maintains a professional appearance; Maintains a positive customer attitude; University function support (special set-ups etc.); considered a designated employee (essential); ALL other duties as assigned;
