University of Missouri Libraries, College of Veterinary Medicine

Job Description

The University of Missouri Libraries seek a Head Librarian to plan, direct and administer the programs and staff of the Zalk Veterinary Medicine Library. The librarian will work closely with faculty, clinicians, researchers, staff and students of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) to provide integrated library services to support the mission of the College. The Veterinary Library supports research, education, and clinical care for the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, MU veterinary clinics and research departments.

Description of Duties

* Oversee operations of the Zalk Veterinary Medical Library, including hiring, training and supervision of 2 FTE staff and student employees, and manage the library's physical space. Develop training programs and establish performance and service standards in carrying out the mission of the Veterinary Medical Library.

* Provide outreach, reference, and instruction services to faculty, clinicians, researchers, staff and students of the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and partnering organizations.

* Provide high-quality research consultation and literature searches pertaining to veterinary medicine and animal health.

* Develop and update documentation, web resources and promotional content.

* Perform collection development in the veterinary sciences and animal health, including budget management and selection of resources.

* Build relationships and collaborate with University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine faculty and administrators on projects and administrative groups.

* Manage and promote use of the Veterinary Medical Library web site and Library-subscribed electronic resources through user instruction and outreach.

* Compile and evaluate library service and activity measures.

* Partner with colleagues across MU Libraries for collaborate services.

* Participate on and contribute to library-wide committees and work groups.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications: Master's in information and/or Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or international equivalent.

Preferred qualifications:
Candidates will be evaluated on:
* Coursework or experience in veterinary, health or related field
* 3-5 years of library experience preferably in a health sciences setting
* 3 years of increasing supervisory or leadership experience
* Demonstrated experience and/or training in scoping and systematic reviews
* Familiarity with the Institutional Animal Care and use Committee (IACUC) protocols
* Strong service orientation and commitment to providing a welcome environment and outstanding customer service
* Progressively responsible experience in libraries OR relevant healthcare or academic sciences library setting
* Strong collaborative, interpersonal, and communication skills
* Experience working on research projects, individually and collaboratively
* Teaching experience, including creating online resources guides and tutorials
* Willingness to learn new skills and technologies
* Willingness to take an active role in developing a new library program and promoting a new suite of library services

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary and librarian rank will be commensurate with experience within an expected range of $60,000-$75,000. This position holds non-tenure track (NTT) faculty status. Other Information

This position works out of Zalk Veterinary Medical Library at the University of Missouri, located within the College of Veterinary Medicine. The position has the option of a hybrid work schedule with occasional days working from home but primarily will be onsite Monday through Friday.
