- Position Overview: ACARA Solutions, in partnership with our client is seeking an experienced Advanced ASIC FPGA Engineer for a remote contract-to-direct-hire position. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, implementing, simulating, and testing firmware components for FPGA-based systems. You will also integrate and test firmware on target hardware, design digital circuits, and develop test systems. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer with strong embedded systems, FPGA, and microcontroller expertise to contribute to innovative, high-tech projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, simulate, and test firmware components for FPGA-based systems.
- Define FPGA timing, pinout, and placement constraints, reviewing synthesis and timing reports, addressing any identified issues.
- Design, implement, and unit test firmware components for microcontroller-based systems.
- Integrate and test firmware on target hardware platforms.
- Design and simulate digital circuits, contributing to system performance.
- Develop and implement test systems, including creating test software applications.
- Generate system/software/interface requirements and detailed design documentation.
- Create and present trade studies, analysis reports, test results, and project status updates to the team.
- Research, identify, and evaluate new technologies to improve design and development processes.

Required Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working through the full engineering development life cycle (concept, requirements, design, implementation, and testing).
- At least 5 years of experience writing technical documentation for embedded systems.
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience with Linux and embedded operating systems.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with memory technologies, voltage regulation devices, ADCs, DACs, and standard low-level communication interfaces.
- At least 5 years of experience using common lab equipment (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering).
Required Skills:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or Science or Engineering or Mathematics.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with the engineering development life cycle, including concept, requirements, design, implementation, and test phases.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with writing technical documentation for embedded systems.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with Linux and embedded operating systems.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with memory technologies, voltage regulation devices, ADCs, DACs, and standard low-level communication interfaces.
- Minimum 5 years of experience with common lab equipment such as o-scopes, multi-meters, power supplies, and soldering.
Preferred Skills:
- Master's Degree.
- OrCAD Capture, Quartus, LabWindows/CVI, Git.
- Soft-core processors (Nios or MicroBlaze).
- ARM-based microcontrollers.
- National Instruments data acquisition systems.
- Good background in FPGA design in VHDL, verification, and timing closure.
- Good background in implementing microcontroller firmware in C or C++.
- Good background in digital circuit design.
