To ensure Tesla's overall mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy, the Tesla Energy team is bringing our world leading battery technology to the grid.Tesla is leveraging its breakthrough firmware, electronics, testing and manufacturing capability to develop and deploy grid connected energy storage system at residential, industrial, and utility levels. Tesla compliance engineering team is looking for experienced engineer(s) who is passionate about product safety and reliability to drive the world's transition to a sustainable future by supporting the global deployment of grid interactive, grid support and micro-grid Energy Storage Systems. We emphasize collaboration in our work, and always encourage each other to have fun while we are changing the world together. In this role you'll be responsible for grid certifications, ranging from identifying market entry requirements through design consultancy, certification, permitting and participating in code development groups to advance industry standards.
What You'll Do
- Perform grid code and product safety type testing. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to troubleshoot the EUT, review testing scope and pass/fail criteria with NRTLs
- Setup test configuration hardware and firmware, post process test results and submit results to certification body
- Propose and implement process improvement opportunities to facilitate testing and certification process
- Create configuration file for each country/utility to meet the local grid code requirement
- Write Compliance Product Design Requirements (CPDR) summarizing grid and/or safety compliance requirements
- Support product registrations and permitting applications
- Research new market entry requirements
- Represent Tesla on code committee in renewable energy industry and feed upcoming requirements to internal stakeholders for early adoption
- Serve as an expert resource for the compliance test engineers
- Work with NRTLs to achieve product compliance target
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience in renewable energy systems certification process
- Experienced in grid interactive and grid support standards
- Strong interpersonal and communications skills
- Attention to detail and ability to navigate/interpret ambiguity of standards
- Strong lab/test/data analysis/troubleshooting/reporting skills
- Proven track record in renewable product certifications
- Highly experienced in grid interaction/support codes and standards
- Experience with test equipment, such as Yokogawa, Dewetron or other data acquisition and analyzer tools, grid simulator, RLC load bank and communication interfaces
- Fluent in English

Expected Compensation
$80,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
