ABOUT THE POSITION

The Mortgage Credit Officer is responsible for analyzing, reviewing, and evaluating consumer home loan application using the internal Underwriting Standards, as well as general Fannie Mae and other investors' underwriting guidelines, to determine creditworthiness of the applicant. Types of mortgage loan applications this individual will assess include, but are not limited to, Conventional, Jumbo, and Home Equity residential mortgages. Must be able to recommend approval or denial of credit applications and provide written/verbal decision and documentation to support the lending decision. Operate in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, Reg B (ECOA), Reg C, Reg X, Reg Z and all Dodd Frank related regulations.

NORMAL DAY-TO-DAY WORK

  1. Liaise with a third-party vendor. Receive and review loan files for sufficient documentation to make an informed loan decision based on the product description and standard underwriting guidelines.
  2. Utilize expertise in reviewing self-employed loan applicants for income analysis for all organization loan types. Evaluate all information for accuracy and correct as necessary based on the loan decision. Collaborate with Senior Mortgage Credit Officers and third-party vendor on loan exceptions, complex and non-complex loans.
  3. Manage and monitor pipeline of deals in all underwriting stages. Provide any industry updates including Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac changes to management.
  4. Assist Senior Mortgage Credit Officers and Management to complete special projects. Assist in maintaining product guidelines, policies, and procedures, and ensuring all are current.
  5. Assist with quality control reviews and internal and external audits. Work with Compliance and third-party vendor to address any findings.
  6. Provide documentation in the file if a policy, procedure, or guideline exception is made stating the type of exception and any compensating factors to support the decision.
  7. Remain knowledgeable of State and Federal lending regulations, NCUA and Credit Union policies and procedures, demonstrating a commitment to fair lending practices and ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations concerning consumer mortgage lending.
  8. Take ownership for actions, decisions, and results; openly accept feedback and demonstrate both the willingness and ability to improve.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Here are a few skills you MUST have to be qualified for this position.

  1. Minimum 4 - 6 years of experience in consumer underwriting.
  2. Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles, business financial statements and tax returns.
  3. Knowledgeable in analysis of personal tax returns, personal financial statements, and credit bureau reports.
  4. Experience in a centralized underwriting environment and the use of scorecards/risk-grading/risk-based pricing for credit decisioning.
  5. General understanding of a Consumer Mortgage Loan Origination System.
  6. Experience with credit procedures, policies, and regulations. Knowledge of bankruptcy and consumer laws.
  7. Ability to function in a Consumer business office environment and utilize standard office equipment including but not limited to: PC, copier, telephone, etc.
  8. Ability to lift a minimum of 25 lbs. (file boxes, computer).
  9. Travel required on occasion.
  10. Here are a few qualities we'd LIKE for you to have to make you more suited for this position.

1. Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business or related field required.

2. 1 - 3 years of Credit Union consumer credit experience.

3. Experience in mortgage underwriting.

4. Knowledge of loan structuring and work-out solutions in desirable.
