Job Summary:



The Department of Neurology at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus is seeking to recruit a dynamic Assistant Professor with strong clinical values and unique research skills for our department. This position presents an enormous opportunity to expand our Movement Disorders clinical care, research, and education within the department and School of Medicine. This position will be faculty of the Movement Disorders section in the University of Colorado, Department of Neurology. The position's time will be split between general movement disorders and the Functional Neurological Disorders (FND) Program (50/50). In each role, the individual will conduct direct patient care and have the opportunity to lead or participate in research and educational initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities



  • The duties in this faculty position will include teaching, research, and service responsibilities. The overall determination of research and clinical activities (Movement Disorders & Functional Neurologic Disorders) and allocation of time and effort will be subject to the determination of the Section Chief.
  • Clinical Duties include responsibilities at the faculty-level for the out-patient services with supervision of residents and medical students, supervision of patient procedures, and teaching of the house-staff as well as students.
  • Teaching activities including leading teaching conferences and training medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Administrative responsibilities will include data entry into hospital systems, development of critical pathways, committee work, and projects aimed at improving the specialty and department mission. It is assumed the bulk of this non-clinical time will be spent working toward the production of scholarship activities. Attendance at the meetings and educational events of the department and specialty programs is expected. Other duties may be assigned as need arises.


Specific to FND Program



  • Primary responsibilities will include direct clinical care of individuals with FND.
  • Work collaboratively with FND Program Director, Business Manager, and multidisciplinary team.
  • Act as liaison between FND Program and Movement Disorders section to ensure alignment of clinical, research and educational goals. This includes but is not limited to communicating patient, faculty, and staff needs to ensure high quality and efficient care for FND patients.
  • Participate in peer review, in-service training, and quality improvement processes to understand patient care protocols and care delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with the medical director in development, implementation of program changes, including any attendant quality improvement programs such as programs to assess the completeness and accuracy of neurological workup.
  • Follow established SOM Department of Neurology and UCHealth policies, procedures, and objectives for continuous quality improvement objectives
  • Participate in ongoing FND Program research initiatives in collaboration with team members to support understanding best patient outcomes, positioning the clinic for funding potential and fostering academic success and institutional recognition
  • May represent the organization at various community and/or business meetings, committees, and task forces; promoting existing and new programs and/or policies
  • Other duties may be assigned as need arises.

More than 5,000 movement disorders patients are served by the University of Colorado Hospital MDC clinics annually - by far the Rocky Mountain Region's largest referral center for these conditions. In addition to outpatient visits, our practitioners also provide specialized services such as Deep Brain Stimulation surgery (DBS), botuliunum toxin injections (Botox), sleep study interpretation, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, neuropsychological testing, and psychiatric services.

University of Colorado Movement Disorders investigators are conducting 30-50 research studies at any time, funded by the National Institutes of Health and other governmental agencies, Michael J. Fox Foundation and other private foundations, and industry. These studies include: basic research, translational and clinical trials; multi-center and investigator-initiated trials; and collaborations across our department, medical school, campus, and local, national, and international institutions. Our faculty engages students and graduates of all levels in these research projects.

As well as educating students in research, our faculty teaches health care students and professionals locally, nationally, and internationally. The MDC sponsors a monthly campus multidisciplinary lecture series and co-sponsors a quarterly video rounds and an annual CME event for local physicians and neurologists. MDC members have an educational conference every other week, which includes journal club, lectures, and video rounds. Further, the MDC actively participates in and educates community lay movement disorders groups.

The FND Program observes local, national, and international recognition for their high-quality, multidisciplinary care of individuals with FND. At present, the University of Colorado FND Program is 1 of only 5 comprehensive outpatient clinics in the United States serving this population. This position is supported by highly motivated, passionate and dedicated faculty and staff including neurologists, behavioral health clinicians, social work, nurse management, and administrators. Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Assistant Professor



  • Applicants must be Board Certified or eligible to be board certified before start date
  • Completed fellowship training in Movement Disorders
  • A State of Colorado medical license and DEA license must be obtained on or before hire date.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • A record of previous or current research funding is highly desirable.

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as hiring range:



  • Assistant Professor - $195,000-$210,000


The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
