Job Summary
The Department of Kinesiology at Elmhurst University invites applications for a Full-time Lecturer in Exercise Science beginning August 2025. The successful candidate will teach the equivalent of eight courses a year in the Exercise Science curriculum. Course coverage may include any of the following: Functional Anatomy, Human Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Exercise Testing and Prescription, Research Methods and/or Nutrition (courses are offered each semester). Course assignments will depend on the expertise and teaching experience of the successful candidate. A lecturer is a full-time faculty member whose primary responsibility is teaching. Lecturers have renewable one-year contracts and are eligible for promotion.
The Department of Kinesiology serves approximately 180 majors (Exercise Science, Sport Management) and minors (Coaching, Sport Management) and is part of a multi-disciplinary School of Health Sciences ( SHS). In addition to Kinesiology, the SHS includes clinical and non-clinical programs in Nursing, Public Health, Communication Sciences and Disorders and Occupational Therapy.
Essential Functions
  • Responsibilities for this position include course preparation, instruction, grading, being available to students who have questions and advising students during course registration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or a closely related field preferred; ABD considered.
  • Evidence of successful university teaching in Exercise Science, Kinesiology or a related discipline.
  • Ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses in the Exercise Science program.
  • Ability to develop collegial relationships and work with diverse populations.
  • Ability to teach in-person courses on the campus of Elmhurst University.

Preferred Qualifications
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
Employee is usually subject to indoor work, protected from weather conditions. Work is physically active in nature and involves exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently/constantly in order to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, ability to focus, and peripheral vision.
