Position Summary:

Answers to ASBU EHS Manager with oversite from the Plant Manager and is responsible for following established programs, employee training, compliance monitoring, maintaining reporting mechanisms, and management of accidents/property losses and workers compensation management.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of the EHS Manager, assures that the company is in compliance with Corporate EHS rules and regulations consistent with federal state and local regulations and with insurance and fire regulations.
  • Manages and maintains and environmental management program to include: awareness efforts, training, inspections, compliance and permitting with federal, state, and local controlling authorities. Also, controls and manages waste water, storm water, and waste reduction programs.
  • Inspects shop areas and accompanies various insurance consultants and governmental inspectors on inspection tours, to assure compliance with safety rules and regulations consistent with federal, state, and local regulations with insurance and fire regulations.
  • Approves or recommends changes in manufacturing engineering matters of plant layout, location/relocation of machinery, equipment, facilities, safety designs, and processes.
  • Coordinates and supervises the safety committee, which receives and investigates safety concerns of company personnel.
  • Investigates circumstances involving the control or elimination of contaminants, and irritants, which may adversely affect employee health and general physical condition and submits written reports concerning all unsafe conditions and practices found in the plant and offices. This includes maintaining the in plant hazard communication program. Monitors all airborne contaminants throughout the plant facilities.
  • Investigates accidents, develops tracking system to isolate trends, recommends solution, place employees with restrictions, and directly supervises the personnel in the department.
  • Responsible for monitoring and posting all noise violation areas, machinery, etc., in compliance with OSHA regulations.
  • Accompanies outside vendors in making annual and periodic inspection tours of all chain slings and their components parts. In conjunction with the Plant Manager, works with maintenance department to make recommended safety corrective actions.
  • Supervises the security and fire prevention efforts of the plant facility, including supervision of the plant security program.
  • Trains new employees concerning Plant Safety rules and guidelines. Works with management in a joint effort to provide the worker with a safe attitude, safe surroundings and safe equipment.
  • Manages Workers' Compensation function, works closely with insurance carriers and state authorities, along with in-house supervisors and managers. Works each claim from the accident report to return of the worker for modified duty and ultimately to claim closure (either back to work or disabled).
  • Supervises the medical department and security programs of the facility. (if applicable to plant facility)

Required Education / Experience / Skills:

  • One (1) year experience in a safety related field in a manufacturing setting . Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • One Year of applicable experience. Previous Environmental or Sustainability exposure would be preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to function independently with little or no verbal instruction.
  • Good people skills.
  • Must have high organizational skills.
  • Have word processing abilities; preferably being knowledgeable in Word for Windows

Travel:Infrequent overnight travel required.
