Verisign is looking for an experienced Senior-level Java software engineer to expand the ODIN team.

An ideal candidate is fluent in Java, has practical knowledge of databases, developed and deployed production-grade software, and is eager to learn as needed. In the candidate, we seek an understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including core Computer Science concepts, as well as hands-on problem-solving experience building software systems. Obtaining these competencies often requires an equivalent of a master's degree and 5-7 years of hands-on work experience. We remain open to other career paths.

The candidate will be involved in all aspects of product development including ideation, design, implementation, deployment, and issue resolution. This will usually imply cross-team collaboration with Product, Engineering, Security and Operations.

Product

ODIN is a critical central hub for account management, product catalog, and authentication. ODIN leverages industry leading technologies, including Java, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, Hazelcast, and Docker to build a high-performance scalable application.

Responsibilities



  • Develop cross-stack product features based on the business requirements
  • Work with stakeholders to define requirements
  • Drive the design, implementation and deployment
  • Proactively suggest code improvements and lead refactoring
  • Contribute to and drive product technical vision
  • Highlight risk and provide mitigations


Requirements



  • BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years Java coding experience in full stack production applications
  • Practical knowledge of databases (we use PostgreSQL), including schema design, queries, performance
  • Knowledge of Java code testing
  • Experience with caching solutions (we use Hazelcast)
  • Able do architecture design for complex systems
  • Have experience in deployment automation and workflow automation, CI/CD, Jenkins
  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment
  • Experience with DevOps, including Ansible and Terraform
  • Experience with Docker


Team

Our team possesses complete engineering ownership over the product. The work style of the team is closer to an internal startup where all the team members are involved in the majority of product development phases and are flexible moving between focus areas. This is a global team that sits in Reston, Virginia and Fribourg, Switzerland.

In terms of the process, we rely on Scrum to structure our work, with tickets prioritized in Jira. Our code is located on internal GitHub; we follow Git Flow with pull request code reviews and extensive automation. For continuous delivery, we use Jenkins with pipelines and our product deployments are automated with Terraform and Ansible. The product can be rolled out to our internal cloud, from zero to the operating state in a single button click. We do builds for each codebase change as well as nightly builds. We have automated testing with substantial coverage.

While fluent in Java, it is beneficial if the candidate has experience working with some of the mentioned tools. Others can be learned as needed.

This position is based in our Reston, VA office and offers a flexible, hybrid work schedule

The pay range is $ 160,300 - $216,900.

The anticipated annual base salary range for this position is noted above, however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience. Verisign offers a discretionary bonus which is based on individual and company performance, and certain roles may be eligible for discretionary stock awards.
