Responsibilities

The Financial Advocate supports patients nationally from the onset of admission through their discharge from services. In this capacity, they work to educate patients specifically on their financial responsibility associated with treatment. This generally includes, review of private pay or commercial insurance options, accurate accounting of costs, and forecasting of future costs for all levels of care. The Financial Advocate collects payments for housing, documents actions and conversations in the EHR, conducts aid interviews, and ascertains signatures from patients on regulatory paperwork.

  • Work closely with the multidisciplinary team and the patient to assist patients with financial or insurance questions.
  • Enter clear and timely documentation in the EHR.
  • Insure Revenue Integrity
  • Maintaining a collaborative relationship with the multidisciplinary team, specifically the Addiction Counselors, Care Coordinators and Managed Care Specialists.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • 2 or more years working in customer service in a healthcare setting, working with insurance, registration, coding medical records and/or related office experience.
  • Must have ability to multi-task between several computer systems
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft office programs and 10-key skills, including data entry
  • Able to develop effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection
  • Current CPR Certification or obtained within 30 days
    • Certification must be from American Red Cross or American Heart Association

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree
  • Knowledge of multiple health insurance plans
  • Front end patient facing or patient supporting roles and knowledge (Financial Advocate, Patient Access, Verification of Benefits, Prior Authorization). Working directly with a patient population regarding insurance and finances.
  • Experience working in a virtual environment
